Description:

Painted at the end of 2010, one of the first mini-paintings done for a show at the Hotel Congress ( a major Tucson landmark). I made a lot of carrot and rabbit related pieces for that show. I like both as symbols, the carrot as an object of desire (the carrot and stick) and the rabbit or hare because they are one of the few tricksters in mythology that isn’t predatory. Ravens and crows will steal an egg or snatch a mouse and coyote is an out and out hunter. Rabbits don’t do this and from Bugs Bunny to the Aztecs four hundred rabbit gods, the Centzon Totochtin, they have a more humorous and hedonistic quality. They’re also associated with fertility and sexuality and I like that.
